Where I’ve Been
The last several months have been extremely busy. My wife and I had a baby, built a new house, and moved from New York City to Raleigh, NC… during all this I had to stay focused on completing the development and architecture for the most challenging project I have ever been involved with. We were up against some incredibly aggressive deadlines, constantly changing requirements, and many roadblocks but the project and launch has overall been a success. In the end, we had to sacrifice features in order to meet the time line, but the coming months will be filled with re-evaluating the original requirements and determine what will be added back in, what can be done better, and how to optimize what we launched with.
As the lead developer and architect, I performed a majority of the back-end development, database design, and integration with third-party vendors. In addition to myself, we had a dedicated UI developer for the XHTML, CSS, and client-side programming, project manager, designer, technical team lead, and a reputable firm who came up with the design. From time-to-time we also needed to hire freelancers who helped complete specific tasks on the site and brought in various other people in the department as needed.
Over the next few weeks, I want to post more about the architecture and document some of the challenges encountered during development and launch of the new site. There are still issues to be resolved on the technical side, however, being a small team with limited resources, we have been in reactive mode, taking the issues as they come. The good news is, the site is been stable and feedback has been positive.
